The church in Vertine |

A detail of the pillars on the front of the church. It shows the church as a lion, holding down a beast (of paganism?) |

Christine and Roberto and the steel fermenting vats |
The big Slovakian oak barrels for all the wine to age. The valves on the top are water-valves, which allow gases to escape, but no impurites to get into the wine |
Roberto explaining about the special Tuscan rock, which holds a lot of minerals an allows the grape plants to get lots of minerals (and therefore flavors) |
The group in the special vault. It is lit with special dark lights, so that the wine isn't disturbed. |
The special vault closing - very James Bond-ish |
Christine and Roberto in the "nursery." And this is a small winery! |
The room with the french oak barrels. The Super Tuscan is aging here. |

The hill with the cypress trees on it is where an important battle took place. On September 4, 1260 at 0800, a battle started between Siena and Florence. Siena won. Roberto (who was born in Siena) said that this is the one date that we all must remember. (Unfortunately, Florence won the culture war a few hundred years later, but that just means that now Siena is a very nice small-big town and Florence is a crazy madhouse) |
A beautiful view of Siena |
Sienese laundromat. A little different than in the states. You don't put coins in the actual washer or dryer |
You put your money in a machine on the wall and then pick the number of your washer/dryer to start. |
